DHOOM 3
I went to this film with tons of expectations.
One reason being, it is a sequel to a fast paced entertaining thrillers. Second
reason being the hero is Aamir Khan. I was disappointed on both the counts.
The film is not a fast paced entertaining
thriller. Aamir is just not suitable for such type of roles, I think. At least
not after watching Hrithik in Dhoom 2.
The film plot in brief: Great Indian Circus
Company (USA)’s owner (Jackie Shroff) could not honour his commitments to a
Bank. The Bank comes to auction his assets; this owner out of frustration commits
suicide in front of the Bank Manager & his son. After he grew up as an
adult this son decides to take revenge by bringing down this Bank.
First half of the film is too prolonged, too
boring. The car/ bike chases are very boring. Flying cars, flying autos &
bikes looks real and near to natural only if it is done by Rajinikanth. For all
others they just look fake and boring. That is what exactly happened in this
film. Abhishek bacchan’s introduction fight is very pale. Even Aamir Khan’s
introduction is so normal looking and pale. In that way Katrina’s introduction
and her first song was really awesome. Initially before the start of the song I
was wondering about her dress… thinking that, what a lame choice of costumes
and appearance ?– I thought. But in her introduction song “Kamli” (Sung by
Sunidhi & Music by Pritam) Katrina was at her best. Very slim & sexy looking.
Great dance performance. I liked the filming of that song.
Interval break is given at a good point.
Second half picks up the real story. Aamir khan
action is outstanding in the second half. Again the chases pull the tempo back.
They could have been avoided or at least shortened. There is no newness in
those routine chases. Second half is all about emotions, feelings, revenge plot
etc., The fun/ frolic/ flirting that normally goes with the brand name DHOOM is
really missing in this film. One thing is sure the timing and all the dialogues
given to Uday Chopra will definitely make us laugh heartily. He is the only guy
who can make us laugh in this film.
Katrina fulfilled the beautiful looking female role
next to the hero. Apart from that there is no reason for her role in this film.
Katrina managed to steal a small kiss from – Aamir in this film. Back ground
score is good, photography is very good.
I can safely give 1.50/ 5 for first half and 3/
5 for the second half.
Aamir and Dhoom form a great combination. Aamir is too good in his double role. Katrina is fine in her short role, but could have been offered a slightly bigger role as she is an A-list actress. Abhishek failed to show something new. Uday was very good is his comedy act. Overall, a one-time must-watch movie. Surely deserves 4 stars.
